Now, this wasn’t exactly the Lionsgate studio we know about today, but it’s sort of tangentially related in a way that I can’t make sense of beyond the fact that showbusiness can be pretty convoluted at times. They then went on something of an acquisition spree, first purchasing Lions Gate Studios in 1986. Kupin, Sloan, and Thompson had some pretty bold aspirations for the studio, starting in 1984 when they created three new divisions to reflect the more diverse approach they wanted to take: New World International, New World Television, and New World Video. This is where things start to get really wild and, alas, kicked off a sequence of events that would eventually lead to New World’s downfall. Then, in January of 1983, he decided to move on, selling the studio for $16.5 million to lawyers Larry Kupin, Harry E. Somewhere in the middle ground between the homegrown exploitation and foreign prestige were 1977’s Rabid and 1979’s The Brood, a pair of films that introduced the world to the gooey body horror breakout director David Cronenberg.Ĭorman’s tenure at the helm of New World gave us all sorts of horror and genre cult classics, including pure exploitation fare like Death Race 2000, teen films like Rock 'n' Roll High School, and playful homages like Saturday the 14th and Slumber Party Massacre. from Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, and Akira Kurosawa. And as was Corman’s style, he leveraged a bevy of up-and-coming talent in his films, including John Sayles, Martin Scorsese, Joe Dante, Jonathan Demme, and James Cameron.Īdditionally, New World worked to distribute more prestigious international fare in the U.S. These extended beyond nudie flicks into other flavors of grindhouse, Blaxploitation, and horror films. New World produced four more Nurses films in as many years, but Rothman also notes that Corman encouraged directors to continue including social commentary in their films. While it’s hard to say if the film’s success was based on the narrative elements or the extensive nudity, Corman seems to have bet on both. The film was a hit, making over $1 million off a $120,000 budget. Director Stephanie Rothman had creative control to mold the story as she saw fit, so among the copious amounts of nudity were stories about immigration, abortion, and other social issues. They distributed their first film, the biker flick Angels Die Hard, in June of that year, but their first big splash came two months later with the help of a reliable formula: nudity! The Student Nurses was an R-rated romp aimed at putting enough butts on screen to also put them in the seats, but Corman was insistent on incorporating more than flesh. New World was founded by Roger Corman and his brother Gene in 1970. New World’s history is all about taking chances, an approach that would ultimately lead to its downfall. But I’ve always wondered what kind of film studio had the gumption to produce a movie at the height of the AIDS crisis that was directed by an openly gay man and revels in kink, incorporates copious amounts of blood, and dares us to indulge in our darker nature? It turns out that for a studio like New World Pictures, this tact was pretty much par for the course. Look, those of you who know me likely already know why I have an affinity for New World Pictures (hint: they’re responsible for a movie I think is really “swellraiser”). Nowadays, drones are a lot more common and accessible to common people. A decade ago, most people knew drones to be the unmanned aircraft that militaries used to monitor or attack the hotbeds of terrorism. Language, just like society and technology, is a constantly evolving entity. The UAV, the drone itself, is only a component of an entire ecosystem of hardware, software, skills, and human input that make up the UAS. However, the distinction between UAV and UAS needs to be made when talking in a technical context. Given the extreme popularity of multicopters, this perception would most likely reflect the truth. For most people, the word evokes the image of a standard multicopter drone. Nowadays, the terms “RPA” and “UAV” are usually still used interchangeably.įor casual conversations, articles, and news reports, the simple “drone” term serves its purpose. The use of “RPA” hasn’t quite caught on yet, particularly based on its intended meaning. Even now, there are references that make the use of the term “RPA” for “Remote Pilot Aircraft.” This is being done in an effort to differentiate high-level drones that require a significant amount of training or experience to casual models that are meant just for recreational flight. The field of drones (or UAVs) is still very young and we can still expect the language surrounding it to evolve in the next few years. To put it simply, a UAV is simply a component of a UAS. In simple terms, a UAS is the totality of everything that makes a UAV work including its GPS module, ground control module, transmission systems, camera, all the software, and the person on the ground controlling the drone. What is a UAS?Īn Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is, thankfully, very easy to differentiate from a UAV. This is an important distinction to make as we look at the difference between a UAV and a UAS. On a more pedantic level, a UAV refers only to the aircraft itself and none of the other accessories and equipment that make it work. On the other hand, we can make the safe assumption that all UAVs are drones. Although the terms “UAV” and “drone” are used interchangeably in practically all articles, websites, and news, we must make a distinction that not all drones are UAVs. What is a UAV?Īn Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) narrows down the definition of a drone only to aircraft that can fly autonomously or remotely. It’s a good word to use for popular media such as movies and TV but may insufficiently specific for technical conversations. The term can be used to refer to both fixed-wing and multicopter models, although the latter type has definitely become much more common nowadays. In many ways, “drone” is a term that can be used as a non-technical catch-all for both UAV and UAS. Thus, a simpler way of defining a drone is simply as any vehicle that can operate without a drive or pilot inside it. In modern times, the definition of drone has expanded to include vehicles that can be controlled remotely, on top of those that are capable of autonomous movement. From a technical standpoint, a drone can refer to any vehicle – even those that travel in water or land – that can travel autonomously. “Drone” is the most commonly used term to refer to any unmanned aerial vehicle, mostly because it’s a term that the media knows will catch the attention of casual viewers. However, a drone can also refer to a $20 flying toy meant for a child to fly using a simple mobile app.Īdding to the confusion is the fact that most laws and federal regulations concerning these “drones” refer to them as either “UAV” or “UAS.” The most obvious example is the Part 107 rules which are officially called the “Small Unmanned Aircraft Rule” and uses the term “UAS” liberally in its text.įor us to clear the confusion, let’s clearly define the three terms – drone, UAV, and UAS. The Predator XP, an unmanned aircraft used by the United States Air Force and Central Intelligence Agency equipped with sophisticated cameras and sensors for surveillance, is referred to as a drone. The problem with the term “drone” is that it’s been used by the media for just about any type of unmanned vehicle. I also like to have a section for the blog posts I will be working on during the month and a section for next month so I know what I have coming up in case there’s anything I need to prepare for. Here I have a full January calendar when I can write down all my appointments or plans for the month. Pages three and four is my monthly overview page. The quote I chose for January is “the secret ingredient is always love” I literally tell my nephew this every single day and when I decided January was going to have a baking theme I knew this would be the quote. She would put and apron on us and pull a stool up to the counter and let us bake with her all the time. My mom started me and my sisters young with a love of baking. But hey, that could change any time which is my favorite part! If I see a spread someone else tried and liked, I can try it for a month or two to see if it helps me!Įach month I choose a theme and January’s theme is baking. The best thing about bullet journaling is that it’s completely customizable to what you need in a planner. Noise reduction is a plugin and it is used to remove background noises from audio tracks, when i download my copy of ardour and then use it for first time i noticed that there is no noise reduction plugin show up in ardour default plugins and then i do more research on it and find that in order to use noise reduction we have to first export our recordings into our machine and then use any other software like audacity to remove background noises from tracks, now the problem with this is that it is very time taking and irritating process to first export our tracks and then use any other software to remove unwanted noises from our track, so i suggest it's great if we able to use noise reduction plugin in ardour directly and once they add noise reduction in Ardour as default plugin then user's just need to install and open ardour software and noise reduction plugin show up by default in ardour plugin manager and i hope users also appreciate having such important effect in ardour, let me show you examples that how ardour looks like when they add noise reduction plugin. Ardour is a professional sound recorder and user's can use it to record, edit, and mix audio effectively and user's also able to export their audio recordings.
